One of the joys of my life has been painting the places in which I live. When moving into my present home more than 30 years ago it was painted a horrible yellow colour on the walls and white on the ceiling. There was no quality in it and it was screaming out for a redo. It took a while to settle in and get established before considering the work. Finally it happened that looking at the state of the walls took me off to the shop to buy paint.
The samples were beautiful but blue is my colour. Looking for one that would do the best job a pale blue, called holiday sky caught my eye. In my usual way I bought it and the necessary accessories, including drop sheets, rollers and tray, and so on.
Then I made a momentous decision which goes against all the normal rules. I decided to paint the ceiling the same colour as the walls. This eliminated the need to choose a second colour and to have the added difficulty of painting one against another, which is a bit tricky where the two meet.
This turned out to be a great decision and the entire house was painted blue throughout. It is peaceful, easy to live with, and the good quality of the paint allows it to stand untouched for many years. It has since been painted once more but it looks as fresh as it did when first done.
The woodwork which involves doors and window sills, along with the pantry are all white satin and the kitchen, recently renovated, now has the cupboards has a façade to fill in the gap between the tops and the ceiling. This has eliminated the need to clean the tops of the cupboard and to prevent spider webs in the corners.
The first impression people get when they enter the house is one of peace. The colour is very inviting and highly recommended for do it yourself people who want to have a go.
My motto with anything of this nature is keep it simple. Walls that flash colours around leave no room for other decorations and my paintings have to go somewhere. They stand out against the pale colour behind them and with so many now hanging the place looks more like an art gallery. The bottom line is its my home and reflects my personality.
